Blues Fest Is Back In Western Maryland, Merging With Long Running Wine Fest
Interstate Festival Group, LLC announces its “Interstate Blues Fest” to run in conjunction with the 7th installment of the “Interstate Wine Fest”, to be held Friday June 12th & Saturday June 13th, 2020 at the Washington County Ag Ed Center in Boonsboro, MD.
Festival organizers anticipate that roughly 2,500 attendees will be sampling local wine, spirits, and craft beers, eating great local food, and enjoying six regional blues bands at the spectacular venue just six miles south of Hagerstown, MD. The event is sponsored by What’s In Your Neighborhood, a local business coupon agency.
Since 2014, more than a dozen Maryland wineries have emerged upon the property on the second weekend in June, the last three years joined by a half a dozen distilleries. Now with numerous craft breweries and well thought out food options added to the event, the only thing left was to claim it’s musical identity.
The folding of the Western Maryland Blues Fest in 2018 left the door wide open. “People here loved the Blues Fest. They truly seem to miss the Blues Fest,” said Rob Immer, President of Interstate Festival Group. He added, “So, we’re bringing it back, with a modern twist.”
That twist just might be from a lemon in a cocktail sampled by Tenth Ward Distilling Company, a woman owned, Frederick, MD based distillery that has been coming to the Wine Fest since 2017. In all, more than 25 entities will be “Sampling” their craft beverages at the event.
The music, all blues, honest, but eclectic, will be performed by six carefully selected regional acts who are more than excited to be invited.
Mojo Mothership (Winchester, VA), playing “Funky Southern Fried” Rhythm and Blues, will headline Friday night under the lights, preceded by Harrisburg, PA based “Blues Funk Rock” band Switch Fu, and the Western Maryland local powerhouse award winning Jill Fulton Band.
Bushmaster, featuring Gary Brown (Carlisle, PA), who played the Western Maryland Blues Fest in 2007, will kick off Saturday’s jams, followed by Moxie Blues Band, a seven-piece group from Washington, DC. Closing out the event will be the crowd favorite from 2019, Twisted Bluez Band, from Greencastle, PA who, along with a handful of originals, loves to cover B.B. King, Albert King, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, and more.
If the local libations, delicious foods, and rocking blues music isn’t enough, there will also be over 50 vendors of arts, crafts, snacks, trades, and business on hand to shop or peruse.
Girls, Inc. of Washington County, recently named Non-profit of the Year, is the exclusive charitable partner of the Blues Fest. Their mission is to inspire all girls to be strong, smart and bold. For more information, please visit: girlsinc-md.org .
